Explore the Salt Path by car: How to drive (to) the walk!
Driving near the South West Coast path on the South West 660 at Sidmouth
Explore the Salt Path by car: Drive (to) the walk – sounds confusing, but we have THE BEST way to arrive at the South West Coast Path locations where the film was shot!
630 miles is an awful long way to walk. But, that’s exactly what Raynor and Moth did after their life fell apart. The true story told in Raynor Winns best selling book and now movie, starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs plays out along the South West Coast Path. The same path that is minutes away from Drive Devon HQ in East Devon and is adjacent to the slightly longer South West 660 driving route (noting 660 driving miles as opposed to the 630 for the coastal route).
You can see where our thought process is going with this. Simply, hire a car from us and find your own way to the coast path to experience the stunning views and (some of) the drama from the movie. The movie was shot on location along various sections of the coast path including Minehead, Porlock, Velley of the Rocks, Clovelly, Hartland Quay, Padstow, Newquay and Rame Head. Using the South West 660 coastal driving route you can visit all of those locations with our cars.
When you hire one of our fun little MX-5 convertibles you can experience top down care free driving along winding country lanes, wind in your hair, through lush green valleys, alongside flower covered hedgerows and beautiful tree tunnels formed from ancient woodlands. You’ll emerge by the stunning seaside locations that are plentiful here in the South West of England and are connected to the South West Coast Path.
Once you’ve booked your car hire with us, check out the South West 660 route and decide where your adventure will begin.
The Salt Path is in UK cinemas 30th May 2025 and is also still available from all good book shops (or your local library).
